We left on Wednesday last week and spent pretty much all day flying there. Thankfully we were on one of the Delta airplanes that has the little TVs in the backs of the seats, so there was plenty to keep us entertained. We got in around 5:30pm, took a taxi from JFK to our hotel (Millennium Broadway Hotel). I'm getting to be a good hotel picker. It took me some searching to find a hotel that offered king size beds for a reasonable price. I was expecting a hotel room to be similar to what we find in San Francisco, nice but pretty tiny. But this place was nice and roomy. The windows even opened so we could let some fresh air in. The hotel is 1/2 block from Time Square, and has entrances on both sides (two different streets) so it was very handy to get to from any direction. After we settled in we went to Connolly's Pub for dinner, across the street. Then it was to bed so we could make good use of our one day there.

Thursday we got up and out of the hotel at about noon. Seems kind of late, but that would be 9am our time so that's not really doing too bad. We walked all the way down 5th Ave taking pictures until we reached Central Park and FAO Schwarz. I was so excited to go to FAO, but I don't know what I was expecting. It was just a toy store, nothing that exciting. Then we walked back down 6th Ave stopping for lunch/dinner at a Turkish place (Dervish) recommended by the front desk guy at the hotel (he was also Turkish). Then it was back to our room to cool off a little and change clothes.

The weather there was perfect. It was in the mid 60s, a little cool at night and a little warm during the day. I fear the humidity and didn't really know what to expect from our trip, but was very pleasantly surprised.

After we'd had some time to rest and change we headed out to see a show, the whole reason for taking the trip. We saw Guys and Dolls. This is my most favorite musical of all time. But the extra interest in going to see the show was that Lauren Graham (from 'Gilmore Girls') is in it. So of course, the night we went was her night off. I kept thinking, the only thing that could go wrong for this trip would be if she wasn't on that night. They don't post a schedule for these kinds of things, and you don't find out until you get there. I was disappointed, but the show was great. It was still worth the trip to get to go see a really show in New York.

Then on Friday morning we flew back home. Again with the TV, and I think I watched the Food Channel the entire time.

I had never been to New York and Taner had only been for work probably 10 years ago. We made this a short trip because we were thinking we live near San Francisco, it's a big city, how different can it be. But after going and there being awesome weather and us seeing the signs for all the different things to do... we want to make another trip. We've talked about a road trip for some time, since there are various places we'd like to go visit, so many in a few years we'll do that. I want to stop in Washington DC for 4-5 days and see everything there, maybe spend a day in Boston, go to New York for a week, plus anything we can find to do on the drive across the country.
